Welcome

A steaming bowl of ramen on a cold Edinburgh night takes some beating, and Gulp Ramen makes a very good one.

This small, independent ramen shop, run by its owners, came back to Leith Walk in 2026 after a three-year break. The menu is short and done well. The tonkotsu is a rich broth of pork, duck, chicken and deer, with pork belly and loin chashu, a duck and sika deer wonton, an onsen egg and spring onion. There's a laksa-style vegetable ramen too, and a mazemen with slow-roast goat curry and Carolina Reaper hot sauce. You choose thick, wavy futomen noodles or thin, straight Hakata ones, and can turn up the heat from level one to five. Look to the chalkboards for the day's snacks, and there's sake and craft beer to drink. It opens in the evenings from Thursday to Monday, and there are no reservations, so it's first come, first served.
