Sloe Lane Bakery
A small independent bakery on Leith Walk, baking pastries, cakes, sourdough and baguettes from scratch, with Carter coffee and tables outside.
Sloe Lane Bakery is a small, independent bakery on Leith Walk where everything is made from scratch, and it's one of the loveliest places in the city for a pastry and a coffee.
The counter fills with pastries, cakes, sourdough and baguettes, made with local and seasonal ingredients wherever possible, and there's a run of savoury bakes beside the sweet ones, which you don't find everywhere. The coffee comes from its partners at Carter Coffee, a short walk away in Bonnington, and the butter from the Edinburgh Butter Company. There's a little shop too, with coffee beans, Bare Bones chocolate, loose leaf tea, prints and ceramics to take home. Inside is small, with a few seats, and there are picnic tables out front, so on a fine morning you can sit outside with your coffee and watch Leith Walk go by. It's open from 8am to 3pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and for a birthday or a party it will make a special cake if you get in touch.

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm; closed Monday and Tuesday.
