Nauticus
A cocktail bar on Duke Street in Leith, opened in 2018 to champion Scottish produce, with a drinks menu that tells the history of the port.
There's something about a bar that tells you the story of the street it stands on, and Nauticus, on Duke Street in Leith, is a lovely one.
It opened in 2018 to champion Scottish produce, and today nine in ten of its products are Scottish or have Scottish links. The name is Latin for nautical, after Leith's long history of shipping and trade, and the cocktail menu reads like a history of the port, with chapters on the tea and spice routes, the gin craze, the sherry trade and the whisky boom. The building was a whisky merchant's back in 1887, and Nauticus has since released whiskies of its own. In 2019 it was named Admiral Pub of the Year at the Great British Pub Awards. Dogs are welcome. It opens at 4pm through the week, at 2pm on Saturdays and 3pm on Sundays, and you can ask for a table through its website or by phone.
