Black Box Cabin is a two-bedroom cabin for four in the valley of Glendale, on the north-western corner of Skye, beside MacLeod’s Tables. Inside, jet-black beams run over dove-grey cement floors, and the open-plan living space has a wood-burning stove, a woven sofa for three, a cream armchair facing the moorland and a concrete dining table for four. The kitchen has black cabinets and concrete worktops.
The king bedroom has an oak bed, Egyptian cotton linen, duck down bedding and four large windows over green fields, and next to it the family bathroom has a freestanding bath with gold detailing. The twin room has a wet room beside it. Out on the wooden patio there is a bistro table with four chairs, a bathtub for two and a fire pit.
Inside there is a wood-burning stove, an open-plan kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave and coffee machine, a Smart TV and a Bluetooth speaker, and Wi-Fi.
The cabin sleeps four, in a king and a twin, with room for a cot.
Babies and children are welcome, with a travel cot and a highchair provided, but it is a pet-free cabin, so dogs stay at home. There is private parking for up to four cars at the top of the drive. The cabin is booked through Boutique Retreats, who quote from £1,164 for a long weekend or mid-week break with booking fees included. Private dining by Eolach (a nine-course menu in the cabin), a four-hour foraging excursion with an outdoor lunch and a visiting massage therapist can be arranged by contacting Boutique Retreats.
Black Box Cabin is in the valley of Glendale, on the north-western corner of Skye, beside MacLeod’s Tables, with open moorland all round.
It is described as a short walk from a café or restaurant, and Glendale is home to some of the island’s best-known dining, including the Three Chimneys. The Three Chimneys at Colbost is the place for a special dinner. Chidakasha serves a vegetarian menu, and The Dunvegan serves locally sourced Scottish ingredients cooked over fire. Talisker Distillery, the oldest on Skye, makes a good afternoon out. Further afield are the Old Man of Storr and the Fairy Pools, and on the coast there are seals and dolphins to look for. On still nights the owners say you may see the Aurora Borealis.
