Uiginish Point – A Walk to the Light on Loch Dunvegan
About 1.3 miles on foot.

Uiginish is a green finger of farmland reaching out into Loch Dunvegan, with Dunvegan Castle across the water and a small light at its tip.
A short walk over the farm's grazing takes you out to the light at the point, with a low hill for the view all round, and back the same way.
- Time
- Allow an hour or more, out to the light and back, with time on the hill at the point.
- The path
- A farm track, muddy with slurry by the farmyard, then grazing, boggy in places, through gates and along fences.
- Where to start
- At the road end by the farm, leaving the track and the turning space clear for the farm's lorries.
- Set off
- About 10am.
- Dogs
- On a short lead: sheep and cattle graze the farm.
The walk
Uiginish is signposted off the B884 about two miles out of Dunvegan on the Glendale road. Park at the road end by the farm, leaving the track and the turning space clear for the farm's lorries. The light is about a kilometre away, out along the farm track and over the grazing, and the walk comes back the same way.
Follow any signs at the farm and leave every gate as you find it. Dunvegan Castle stands across the loch, and from the low hill behind the light the view runs all round, to MacLeod's Tables and the Cuillin. Near the farm, the track passes the ruins of an old dun on a knoll.
It's boggy in places and muddy with slurry by the farmyard, so keep a dog on a short lead among the sheep and cattle. Afterwards, Dunvegan Bakery & Coffee Shop is about three miles on in the village; ring 01470 521326 for its hours.
