Where to eat in Argyll and Bute.

Argyll and Bute eats from the sea. There are oyster bars on Loch Fyne, seafood shacks on Oban's pier and restaurants on crofts and islands cooking what the boats and the land bring in. You'll find cheese made on Mull, chocolate in Oban and smokehouses by the shore. In the villages, old inns serve good food by the fire. Book ahead in summer, as island places are small.

Inver, a restaurant on the shore of Loch Fyne at Strathlachlan in Argyll, was the first Scottish restaurant with a Michelin Green Star.

It looks across the water to Old Castle Lachlan, and its cooking follows the micro-seasons of this wild corner of Argyll, with hyper-local produce and ingredients freshly foraged from the nearby forest, loch shore and hedgerow. After dinner you don't have to go anywhere, because you can stay the night in one of Inver's shepherd's huts or bothies. In the morning, a picnic basket filled with breakfast treats arrives for you to enjoy while you watch the tide roll in through generous picture windows.
