Seafood on the croft and the pier.

Eating out in Argyll is about the sea and the croft. Book a celebrated restaurant with rooms on the shore of Loch Fyne, a croft restaurant near Fionnphort on Mull, or a seafood restaurant by the jetty on Ulva. On Oban's piers you'll find fish restaurants side by side, and in Glencoe a walkers' inn by the fire. Many places are small and seasonal. Book ahead, especially in summer.

Croft 3, a restaurant at Fanmore on the Isle of Mull, stands in a building that Jeanette, who runs it with Jack, restored from complete ruin.

The photographer Shelley Richmond, who lives on Mull, calls it her favourite place to eat on the island. The room is elegantly simple, with giant windows framing the view across to Ben More. 'The food is the only thing better than the space itself'. There is always a delicious and inspiring vegan option, she adds. Her ideal Sunday includes lunch at Croft 3, gazing out at Ben More. Lucy's garden at Lip na Cloiche, at Ballygown nearby, is open to the public and makes a beautiful wander after lunch.
