The Boathouse is a family-owned seafood restaurant in a 300-year-old stone boathouse on the shore of Ardminish Bay, on the Isle of Gigha, off the west coast of Kintyre.
It has been recommended in the Michelin Guide five years running, and most of the seafood it cooks is landed on its doorstep.
There is a full menu and a Fresh Ins board of the day's catch, with a good wine list. Eat at a table on the beach, or on the heated deck under its canopy, both looking across the sound to Kintyre, or on colder nights come inside to the old boathouse itself. Boats sailing up or down the Mull of Kintyre can moor at the bay's refurbished moorings and jetty and come ashore. The restaurant is seasonal, and in season it serves lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. Booking is wise: call 07442 717150 or book online. The ferry to Gigha leaves from Tayinloan and takes twenty minutes.
