Whitehill Farm House
For eight, with three bedrooms, firewood and room for the dog. Four nights at least.
Whitehill Farm House is a 19th-century farmhouse for up to eight on the Colquhalzie Estate in Perthshire, three miles from Auchterarder and Gleneagles.

For 40 years it was home to the shepherd who tended the land, and it has been lovingly restored as a family home, the old stone house kept and a larch-clad wing added for the bedrooms.
The living space is one large open-plan room with a wood-burning stove between two window seats, a long table and an oak kitchen. The house has views south over the Ochil Hills and north to the foothills of the Highlands. On the ground floor there is a super king bedroom with an en-suite bath and a king bedroom beside a bathroom with a walk-in shower; upstairs is a room with twin beds and a double bunk. There is also a boot room, a utility room and a TV snug with bean bags. Of an evening or early morning it is easy to spot roe deer, red squirrels and the resident barn owl, and Gleneagles is three miles up the road.
The measure of success for us is when whole days pass and nobody has felt the urge to go anywhere.
Every bed has linen bedding, the bathrooms have Wildsmith toiletries, and there is a fully equipped kitchen, a TV snug with bean bags, a boot room, a downstairs toilet, a utility room with a washer, a dryer and a pulley, a terrace for eating outside, a big private garden and a trampoline, used at your own risk.

- Between 10pm and 8am. No candles, and no smoking.

- Roe deer most days, hares, a barn owl next door, red kites overhead, and red squirrels if you are lucky.
- By train
- Gleneagles station is 15 minutes away, on the Highland Chieftain and the Caledonian Sleeper.

Auchterarder, the nearest village, and Gleneagles Hotel are both three miles away, Perth is a 30-minute drive for a bigger shop, and the River Earn is five minutes away. Gleneagles station is a 15-minute drive, Edinburgh Airport 55 minutes and Glasgow Airport 1 hour 10 minutes.
