Mirin
A small, owner-run restaurant on Albert Place off Leith Walk, the sister of Gulp Ramen, with small plates, dumplings and noodles cooked with Asian flavours.
There's something about a small restaurant that doesn't take itself too seriously, and Mirin, on Albert Place just off Leith Walk, is great fun.
It's owner-run, and the kitchen puts the best ingredients it can find together with the Asian flavours it loves, in what the restaurant calls a deliberately inauthentic mix of junk food and delicate cooking. You might start with roe deer and pork dumplings in a chilli and kaffir lime broth, then move on to venison tartare, barbecued monkfish cheek or a dry-aged wagyu smash burger with kimchi. The menu is small plates and dumplings, with low-intervention wine and good music to go with them. Mirin is the sister restaurant of Gulp Ramen, a short way down Leith Walk. Dinner runs from Wednesday to Monday, 5pm to 10pm, with last orders at 9pm. The room is small, so book ahead online, and let them know when you book if you're bringing your dog.
