Isle of Canna
Café Canna
Overview
Café Canna operates from spring through late summer, offering lunch, dinner, drinks and occasional events in the old West Bothy building. Most ingredients come from the island itself—lobster, crab, langoustine, fish, foraged seaweed, island-reared meat, and vegetables from nearby plots. Beer is brewed in-house, and sourdough bread is baked on site.
The menu changes often but usually includes seafood platters, hearty soups, seasonal sides, and house specialities like crab ravioli or langoustine with garlic butter. There are always vegetarian options and plant-based dishes are handled with the same attention as everything else. On select evenings, the café hosts themed nights such as pizza evenings or informal tastings.
Service is relaxed, booking is recommended, and tables often spill outside when the weather allows. There’s a clear view of the harbour from the benches, and meals tend to stretch out with no sense of hurry. Guests arriving on foot from the ferry or setting off on longer walks often stop in twice—once for lunch, again for an evening pint.
The café also produces a small cookbook featuring some of its seasonal dishes, as well as stories from behind the counter and kitchen. It sells out most years and reflects the same straightforward approach as the place itself—practical, flexible, and deeply local.

Location
Café Canna is located near the heart of the island, a short walk from the ferry pier and opposite the community shop. It shares the area with the local post office and looks directly onto the bay. There are no roads—just a walking path across open grass and gravel.
What's nearby
The café sits close to Canna House and its garden, with the harbour and pier just a few minutes away. Walking west leads to the early Christian site at A’Chill, while to the east the island’s coastal path offers access to cliffs, puffin spots, and open Atlantic views.
