Bella Jane Boat Trips

Based in the tiny village of Elgol, they’ve been running trips to Loch Coruisk and the Small Isles since the early 1990s. Their boat, the Bella Jane, is a modern passenger boat on the sheltered waters of Loch Scavaig. The skippers are knowledgeable and love sharing the wonders of Skye.

What to expect

Bella Jane Boat Trips offer a variety of trips to suit all tastes. Their most popular option is the 3-hour Standard Return trip to Loch Coruisk, which includes 1½ hours ashore at this loch at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains. You’ll have the chance to spot seals, dolphins, porpoises, and maybe even a golden eagle soaring overhead. For those with less time, the Mini Return trip offers a shorter, non-landing cruise. And for the more adventurous, one-way trips are available for walkers and climbers who want to explore the area further. They also offer trips with longer ashore times.

Look out for

Keep an eye out for otters along the shoreline. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a minke whale or a basking shark on your trip.

Getting there

Elgol is located on the Strathaird Peninsula, on the south coast of Skye. It’s reached via a winding single-track road from Broadford (the B8083), a journey of about 45 minutes. Free car parking is available at Elgol Jetty.

When to visit

Bella Jane Boat Trips operate from April to October, with sailings throughout the day. It’s advisable to book in advance, especially during peak season. Sailings are subject to weather conditions, so it’s always a good idea to check ahead.

Good to know

Dogs are welcome on board, but Bella Jane should be notified in advance. Refreshments are included on all trips, and snacks are also available.
