Isle of Skye

Bothan Buidheag

Add to List

Introduction

On the edge of Broadford Bay sits Buidheag Bothy, a small retreat built for two. It’s a timber-clad space with everything you need pared back into one neat design. There’s a wood burner for warmth, a double bed, and a compact kitchen to keep things self-contained. Outside, the deck looks across croft land to the sea, with the Red Cuillin rising in the distance. It’s the kind of place where mornings might begin with coffee overlooking the bay and evenings finish with a fire after exploring nearby. Broadford is close enough for shops, cafés, and ferries, but the bothy has a way of keeping you in place. It isn’t about long lists of extras, more about stepping aside for a few days and enjoying something simple.

Facilities & Services

Everything in the bothy is set up to be practical and welcoming. Sleep well in the double bed, cook in the small but equipped kitchen, and keep warm with the stove. There’s Wi-Fi for convenience, a shower room for comfort, and an outdoor spot to take in the surroundings.

Location

The bothy is set close to Broadford, one of the main hubs on Skye. From here you look across croft land and out over the bay, with the Red Cuillin hills in view. It’s a spot that feels tucked away but keeps you near shops, cafés, and ferry links. The road north leads further into the island, while to the south you can reach smaller villages and coastal walks. It’s a location that works well if you want the convenience of Broadford close by, while still having open views and quiet surroundings to return to at the end of the day.

Good to know

A couple of things to keep in mind. The bothy is compact, meant for two, with the log burner handling the heat. It’s cosy, but you’ll need to feed the fire when nights are cold. Wi-Fi works, though mobile reception is patchy. There aren’t any shops right next door, so it’s easier to stock up before you arrive. Nights can be very still here, and once the sun drops it gets properly dark.

What's nearby

The bothy sits just outside Broadford, one of Skye’s main villages. From the deck you look across croft land to the bay, with the Red Cuillin hills in the distance. It feels tucked away but keeps you close to shops, cafés, and the ferry link. The road north opens up the rest of the island, while to the south you’ll find smaller villages and coastal walks. It’s a practical base if you want easy access to amenities while still enjoying quiet surroundings and open views.
