Bothan Beileag

For two, with one bedroom, firewood and room for the dog. Two nights at least.

Welcome

Bothan Beileag is the second of Janet Ward's shepherd huts on Skye, named after another of her cats.

It's a snug wooden hut with a double bed made up in good linen, a wood-burning stove and extra heating for colder days. The shared kitchen and lounge are in the Big Shed nearby, with maps and books for planning, and your own bathroom is a short walk away. Janet's donkeys graze the paddock, and the Cuillin hills are on the skyline. Dogs are very welcome, with a fenced area and a place to wash their muddy paws.

Bring your pets - we are very dog friendly.

Where it is

The shepherd’s hut is in Heaste, reached by a single-track road about four miles south of Broadford.

From the garden you can look across Loch Eishort toward the Knoydart hills on the mainland and, on a clear day, the Isle of Rùm. It feels remote, but Broadford is still only around ten minutes away for shops, fuel, and cafés. Parking is right beside the hut, which makes unloading easy. The land here is crofting ground, so you’ll often see sheep or cattle in the surrounding fields.
