Dinner from the Castlegate westwards.

Eating out in Aberdeen takes you round the world without leaving the granite. There's a candlelit French restaurant on a cobbled brae, and an Italian trattoria from a family restaurant founded in 1922. Dim sum is served every day on Causewayend, and you'll find Thai, Turkish, Nepalese and Korean kitchens too. On Union Street there's steak grilled over wood fire and a tasting menu whose theme changes every six weeks. Out at Cove Bay, Dyce and Bridge of Don, the fish and chips are fried from fresh haddock. Book ahead, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

La Lombarda, on the Castlegate in Aberdeen, is the oldest Italian restaurant in the UK.

‘La Lombarda has sat on its corner of Castlegate since 1922 seeing itself through World War II, the demise of the city’s fishing industry and a fair few oil industry crashes. If only restaurants could talk. As for its secret to longevity, I’d say it’s down to its authentic and classic Italian pizzas.’
