Vovem is a steakhouse built around fire.

At its heart is the Ox Grill, where prime cuts of Aberdeen Angus, Highland Wagyu and other fine beef are cooked over burning wood, picking up a gentle smokiness on the way.

The restaurant sits on Union Street, a dark, handsome room of deep booths, tables and industrial lamps, with a busy bar through the glass. Alongside the steaks, sliced on boards or served with bearnaise, there are starters such as steak tartare, and a wine room, the Vovem Bodega, to choose a bottle to match. On some nights there is live music.

The staff are warm and attentive, and it is a place for a big night out or a celebration. Vovem opens every day from noon until late, and it is wise to book.
