Welcome

Light of Bengal has been serving curries on Rose Street since 1978, and in 2025 it was named Bangladeshi Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Asian Food Awards.

The menu is long and full of favourites, from pakoras and puri to tandoori dishes and naan, but the chef's specials are where it really shines. Try the Goan seafood feast of king prawns, scallops and monkfish, a Goan lamb shank cooked with red wine, tomatoes and coriander, or chingri murgh mela, chicken breast stuffed with king prawn in a tamarind sauce. The deshi masala, tangy with green chillies, mint, garlic and ginger, is the chef's own favourite. Inside, white tablecloths and silver lanterns make an evening here feel like an occasion. It's open every evening from 4pm until 11pm, children are welcome, and you can book a table or order a takeaway through its website.
