Grape & Grain is a stylish wine bar on Thistle Street, in Aberdeen's west end, and every detail of the room tells a story about the city.

The curved ribs of the ceiling echo the waves of the North Sea, the mirrored walls stand for the Dee and the Don, the bar is cut from black granite threaded with gold and silver for the oil industry, and the grey herringbone tiles are a nod to Aberdeen's fishing. Behind the bar is a long list of award-winning wines, Scottish craft beers and a big run of Scottish gins, with flights of whisky, rum and vodka for tasting side by side. It isn't a restaurant, but small plates and sharing slates of cured meats, cheeses, bread and olives go beautifully with a glass. It has twice won Best Wine Selection at the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, and there's live music some evenings. You can book a table through its website.
