A granite house among silver birches, a short walk from the gates of Balmoral.

The Three Chimneys, Waternish, Dunvegan and Duirinish
Places to stay, and the highest of them is Corrour Station House at 1,339 feet. A good number are conversions: the Arches in Fife was a cart shed for farm machinery, Heritage Coachman Lodge takes part of Dunskey's old stables, and Greenstyle is a renovated farmhouse on the Glenkindie Estate. Laggan Cottage in Aberdeenshire went up in 1880 and has been restored since. Further out there is Lusa Bothy on Skye, sitting in its own secluded bay, and the Jam House on Mull, which is one of three. The ones worth booking early tend to be those with nothing else within a mile of them.
