The Buffalo Farm
The farm shop and butchery of Scotland's largest water buffalo herd, at Boglily Steading on the edge of Kirkcaldy, with its own buffalo meat, mozzarella and ice cream, and a café.
Scotland's largest herd of water buffalo is behind this farm shop at Boglily Steading, on the edge of Kirkcaldy.
Steve Mitchell, a sixth-generation farmer, brought a small herd to Clentrie Farm in 2005, and the farm now makes buffalo mozzarella and ice cream as well as raising its own meat. The shop is a big timber-lined barn with a full butchery: the farm's own buffalo, native Scotch beef, and local lamb and venison, with steaks and joints cut to order, plus pies, burgers, sausages, dairy and a well-stocked pantry. Its produce has won a string of awards over the years, from Great Taste stars for the buffalo steak pie and black pudding to a Gold for the mozzarella at the Scottish Retail Food & Drink Awards. On the farm, the Bothy café serves breakfast and lunch every day, and the buffalo burger is the one to try. Family events, from calf feeding to pumpkin picking, are ticketed through the farm's own site.
