Welcome

Land O'Spex, which many Dundonians still know by its old name, Spex Pistols, is an independent optician tucked into Johnston's Lane off the Westport, and its shopfront alone is worth the detour: bright yellow woodwork, small-paned windows full of frames, and a big painted mural of a woman in white cat's-eye glasses on the wall beside it, with a blue bicycle parked below.

Inside, tall wooden cabinets glow with row upon row of frames, designer, vintage and classic, among old cameras, tins and curiosities, and there is a playful stand of frames under a sign telling you to be cool and wear them. It is a place to find a pair unlike anyone else's, and the staff are known for being helpful. It opens Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 5pm.

Hidden Scotland, the magazine

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
