Welcome

Fisher & Donaldson is a family bakery from Fife, founded in 1919 when two brothers-in-law, Willie Fisher and Davie Donaldson, came home from the First World War and spent their demob money on a bakery in Cupar.

Five generations later it is still a family business, with shops in Cupar, St Andrews and here in Dundee, and its pink-fronted shop, with its old-fashioned lettering over the windows, is a treat to look at before you even go in.

The counters are full of traditional Scottish baking, from morning rolls and pies to cakes, tarts and shortbread, and patisserie and chocolates. But the thing to try is the fudge doughnut, the most popular thing the bakery makes, whose recipe was perfected by the family in the 1980s and is kept a close secret. Leave room for one after lunch in Dundee, or take a box away. Check opening times before you go.
