Project Canelé

A small French bakery and café on Dundas Street named after the canelé, with flan pâtissier, chouquettes and cheese buns, open Wednesday to Sunday.

Welcome

A canelé is a small French cake with a dark, caramelised crust and a soft, custardy middle, and this little bakery and café at the bottom of Dundas Street is named after them.

It opened in 2025, and alongside the canelés the counter fills up with French bakes: slices of flan pâtissier, a rich chocolate cake, sugar-studded chouquettes and soft cheese buns, along with sandwiches. The coffee comes from Artisan Roast, and there are a few tables if you'd like to sit in and take your time. It's a lovely stop on a walk between the New Town and Stockbridge, or on your way down to the Royal Botanic Garden. Take a bag of chouquettes home with you for later. It's open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9am to 5pm, and it's closed on Monday and Tuesday.
