It began in a Pilkington building.
Graham Savage founded Grow Urban in 2019 in Fountainbridge, in a Victorian Gothic building designed by Frederick Thomas Pilkington.

A plant shop and café in the New Town, founded in 2019, selling houseplants, pots and garden tools, with coffee and cake among the leaves.
On St Vincent Street, potted plants and flowers crowd the pavement and garden tools line the arched doorway, beneath gilt lettering on the window.

On the door, gold letters invite you to enter the urban jungle.
Inside, dark green and orange walls are hung with trailing plants, shelves of pots and framed prints, above an antique chest of drawers, and a neon sign glows between the hanging baskets. At the back, a bright room is filled with hanging plants and pendant lamps. There are sprays, gloves, soil and garden books on wooden shelves, and small round tables in the window nooks for a cappuccino and a chocolate cookie. Come for a coffee, and go home with a plant under your arm.

Graham Savage founded Grow Urban in 2019 in Fountainbridge, in a Victorian Gothic building designed by Frederick Thomas Pilkington.

The larger shop, in a Georgian building, opened in 2021 and has a glasshouse inside it.

Inside is a potting shed of its own, stocked with plant-care products and tools.

The staff are known as Plant Gurus, and will advise on which plant suits your room and how to keep it alive.

Every order sent out by post is picked and packed by hand in the Edinburgh shop.
