Novapizza Vegan Kitchen

An Italian restaurant on Howe Street, meat-free since 2015 and fully vegan since 2020, run by chef Maddalena Pezone, with pizza and pasta.

On Howe Street, on the steep hill between the New Town and Stockbridge, Novapizza has served Italian food without meat since 2015.

In August 2020 it went further and became fully vegan, owned and run by Maddalena Pezone, its former head chef, who had earlier opened Edinburgh's first Italian vegan restaurant.

The menu is traditional Italian cooking made entirely from plants. The pizzas come on dough made in the restaurant, topped with dairy-free cheeses and plenty of vegetables, and the pasta runs from carbonara and puttanesca to bolognese. There is a seitan steak in a red wine sauce, calzone, and desserts such as Oreo cheesecake and chocolate cake. The room is small and cosy.

Novapizza opens in the evening and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
