Inside Black Box Cabin.

Black Box Cabin is an architect-designed hideaway in the Glendale valley, with blackened timber outside and calm, pared-back rooms within, all charcoal, off-white and taupe. The best seat in the house is outside: an open-air bath on the deck beside a fire pit, looking out over the moor, and there's a second, egg-shaped tub indoors for colder nights.

Places to Stay with a Wood-Burning Fire

A wood-burning stove, a full log basket and a long evening in front of it is half the reason to come to Scotland in winter. These are the places where the fire is the heart of the house.

Inside The Cabin at Fairygreen.

The Cabin at Fairygreen is a tiny home for two with views over the Sidlaw hills and the Strathmore valley. It was built entirely from Scottish timber, designed in Edinburgh and made in Inverness, and inside it's calm and pale, with a king-size bed facing a big window and a small kitchen. Out on the deck there's a roll-top bath to soak in under the sky, and a fire pit with a grill for a moonlit drink.
