the ones worth carrying home
MacGregor & MacDuff, Glasgow
Shops worth the detour, and the smallest is Shop in a Box, an old telephone box on the Mull of Oa on Islay. The cities have plenty, but a good number of the ones worth going out of your way for are further off: Sandwick Bay Candles in Stornoway, Atkinson-Pryce Books on Biggar High Street, and Barker and Bone in North Berwick, which is a shop for dogs. On Skye most of them are makers selling what they make. Then there are the farm shops, with Rothiemurchus at Aviemore doing Highland beef and smoked salmon. Bill's Tool Store in Glasgow is on the list as well, sitting between the candle makers and the jewellers, and it has earned its place.
