This is the factory of Anta, and alongside it, in a timber hall with a pitched roof, is its shop.
Anta was founded by Annie and Lachlan Stewart, a painter and an architect who met at art college in Edinburgh and shared a love of natural materials and careful craft. Its stoneware is painted by hand, in patterns drawn from Scottish landscapes and seasons, and its tartans turn up as throws, cushions, bags and carpets. The factory itself is powered by solar panels and warmed by the kiln that fires the pottery.
The shop sets it all out: shelves of mugs and bowls, stair runners of tartan carpet, piles of tartan cloth. It opens every day from eleven until five.
Arrives at 5am every day.

Anta's factory stands out on the farmland near Fearn, a long, low building with tall red-framed windows, and its shop is in a timber hall next door. The company was founded by Annie and Lachlan Stewart, a painter and an architect who met at art college in Edinburgh. Its stoneware is painted by hand in patterns taken from Scottish landscapes, and its tartans become throws, cushions, bags and carpets. The shop lays it all out, from shelves of mugs and bowls to stair runners of tartan. It makes an easy stop on the way to Portmahomack.
