Greens is on the High Street in Tain, in the handsome stone building called London House.

The front door is flanked by flowers, and inside the dining room is smart and comfortable, with patterned walls and tables set for lunch.

Everything is made to order with produce from the area, and the home baking is made in house too. By day there are cakes and coffee, light lunches and hearty ones, from battered fish to salads of smoked salmon and prawns, and afternoon tea for a treat. From Thursday to Saturday it opens again in the evening for dinner, with dishes such as seafood platters and slow-cooked lamb shank, and local beers and spirits and wines from around the world.

Tain sits on the North Coast 500, which makes Greens a welcome stop on the road north. Book ahead for dinner.
