Highland Farm Cafe

A timber eco-café on a farm above the Cromarty Firth near Dingwall, with local food and home baking, a deli of Highland produce, a play area and firth views.

On the hillside at Mountgerald, just north of Dingwall and a short way off the North Coast 500, a long timber building looks out over fields to the Cromarty Firth.

The Highland Farm Cafe was built to be as kind to the land as it could be, with solar panels, low-carbon materials and packaging that breaks down, and chargers for electric cars and bikes.

The food leans on the farms and producers of the area, from meat to ice cream, and all the cakes, scones and treats are baked on site. The deli shelves are stocked with Highland produce, gifts and local beers to take away.

Outside there are benches with a view over the firth, and a play area for children, so families can linger. Cyclists get a warm welcome too, with a pump, a place to leave the bike and a tap to refill a bottle. It opens every day.

Open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and at weekends, 9am to 5pm, according to the café; the kitchen closes an hour earlier.
