On Beauly's High Street, looking out over the village square, a white-fronted café with tables under an awning brings a taste of Tuscany to the Highlands.

Café Biagiotti is an Italian pasticceria and coffee bar, run by two sisters with Tuscan family on their mother's side.

Everything is made in the café's own kitchen. The counter is full of fresh bread and focaccia, croissants, fruit tarts glazed with berries and cakes, and at lunch there is hearty soup, salads and daily specials. The coffee comes from a small family roastery in Tuscany, and the milk from a dairy farm five miles away. There are choices for vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets.

It seats about thirty inside and gets busy, so the outside tables fill even in winter. There are no bookings; just drop in. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, and dogs are welcome outside.
