The foot of the town.
The fishing quarter at the bottom of Arbroath is called the fit o' the toon.
A fishmonger and smokehouse at the foot of Arbroath, smoking Arbroath smokies and selling fish in season across its counter.
In the old fishing quarter at the foot of Arbroath, the fit o' the toon, a white building with a great ship's wheel on its gable and a blue awning over the door is E&O Fish.
It is a fishmonger and smokehouse serving the town and its restaurants, and the counter inside changes with what the boats have landed.
The smokies are the thing: pairs of haddock hot-smoked until their skins shine copper and gold, sold warm and wrapped in paper to be eaten flaked from the bone. Alongside them are smoked salmon and kippers, fresh haddock, mackerel, mussels and dressed crab, and whatever else is in season, chalked up on the boards behind the counter.
The shop opens early, from Monday to Saturday, and the harbour and the Signal Tower are a minute away.
Open from early morning, Monday to Saturday.

Smokies are haddock tied in pairs and hot-smoked until their skins turn gold.

Only smokies made within eight kilometres of Arbroath's town house may bear its name.
