The Bach is a café and restaurant in Albert Square, Meadowside, in the middle of Dundee, run by Steven and Wendy, who brought a feeling from home in New Zealand to the city.

Back in Aotearoa a bach, pronounced batch, is a simple holiday house where you go to slow down and eat well with family and friends, and that is the spirit here: come as you are.

Brunch and coffee have been at the heart of it for ten years, from a full breakfast with the house beans, sausage and Stornoway black pudding to eggs Benedict and grilled halloumi. Now they also cook over fire, which they call kanaku, a lesser-known Māori word for it, barbecuing and grilling meat and vegetables the way they grew up doing. There is a rotating list of Scottish craft beer on tap from noon. It is an eight-minute walk from the railway station, across from the McManus. It opens Thursday to Monday, 9am to 9pm; walk in or book.
