Largo Law

The volcanic hill of Largo Law above Upper Largo in east Fife, a steep climb to a summit with wide views over the Forth.

Welcome

Largo Law is the hill everyone in east Fife knows.

Rising sharply out of the farmland above Upper Largo, its green cone is all that is left of an ancient volcano, worn down over hundreds of millions of years, and at 290 metres it is the most distinctive hill in this part of the kingdom.

The walk to the top starts in Upper Largo and climbs through the fields on a rough path, gentle at first and then very steep for the final pull to the summit. It is muddy in places and slippery on the way down, so good boots are wise. From the top you see the whole of Fife spread out below, the wide curve of Largo Bay, the Firth of Forth and the hills of the Lothians beyond.

Cattle graze the hill, so dogs are not allowed from March to November. It is a short climb, but a memorable one.
