Welcome

On Atholl Road in Pitlochry, a teal-painted shopfront opens onto one of the brightest rooms in town.

Pink and blue damask walls, paintings of Highland cattle and stags, and wooden chairs in Hettie's Tea Rooms.

Hettie's was opened in 2010 by Clare, who set out to make it the happiest tea room in the world, and its walls are covered in bold, colourful murals by the artist Bev Nicol.

The rule here is no tea bags. Every tea is loose leaf and mixed by hand, brought to the table in teapots with cups and saucers, and the list runs from breakfast teas to fruit and herbal infusions. There are cakes and scones on the counter, sandwiches for lunch, and a full afternoon tea, with vegan choices too.

Hettie's opens every day from eleven until four, afternoon tea is booked ahead, and dogs are welcome.
