Welcome

On the corner where Station Road meets Atholl Road in Pitlochry, a stone building with a deep green shopfront is the home of the John Muir Trust's Wild Space.

Visited and photographed by Simon Hird

The Trust, named for the Scottish-born pioneer of national parks, looks after wild land across Scotland, and this is its window on the high street.

Inside, the learning space is built from the timber of native trees blown down in storms. A permanent exhibition, full of photographs and with a short film, tells the story of the Trust's work on the land it cares for, and the gallery beyond hosts changing exhibitions of Scottish artists and photographers. There is a small shop of books, maps and gifts.

Wild Space is free, opens from Monday to Saturday, and closes for the winter between November and March. The station is just across the road.
