Hamish McHamish Statue

A bronze of Hamish McHamish, the ginger cat of St Andrews, by David Annand, in Church Square beside Holy Trinity Church.

Hamish McHamish was a ginger cat who lived in St Andrews and wandered the town.

Born in 1999, he spent most of his time in and around the houses and businesses of South Street, and was fed and watered at various homes along the way. A book, Hamish McHamish of St Andrews: Cool Cat About Town, made him known well beyond Fife.

The statue was paid for by public subscription. The sculptor David Annand made the bronze, and it was unveiled on 5 April 2014 on a plinth built by the stonemason Colin Sweeney, in Church Square on the north side of Holy Trinity Church. Hamish died in September that year, and the statue keeps him on the streets of the town. It stands in the open and can be visited at any time.
