Welcome

On Reform Street in Kirriemuir, the town's old police station has become a museum of policing, and the cells where prisoners were once locked up are part of the visit.

The Tayside Police Museum tells the story of the police in Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Angus, from the first forces of the early 1800s to the present day.

The rooms and corridors are filled with the things of the job through the years: uniforms and helmets, truncheons and handcuffs, radios and equipment, photographs and records of old cases. It is run together by Police Scotland, Angus Council and the Kirriemuir Heritage Trust, and entry is free.

Kirriemuir makes a good day out around it, with J.M. Barrie's birthplace a few streets away and the Angus glens opening to the north.
