Places to Stay in Argyll

Argyll is a land of sea lochs, islands and long wooded shores, where the water is never far from the window. These are our favourite places to stay across the region, from off-grid bothies for two to grand Victorian houses by the sea.

Updated 23 September 2026. Across Argyll and Bute.

Argyll reaches from the Firth of Clyde out to the islands of the west, and almost everywhere you go there's water in the view. Long sea lochs run deep into the hills, ferries leave Oban for Mull, and old castles stand at the water's edge. It's a place for slow drives, seafood suppers and evenings watching the light go down over the sea.

We've picked out the places to stay that make the most of it. There are off-grid bothies on Loch Nell that you reach by boat or on foot, and cabins on the shores of Loch Fyne and Loch Goil. Near Appin, contemporary cabins for couples look across the water to Castle Stalker, each with a hot tub. For a bigger party there are grand Victorian houses, one on the shore of the Kyles of Bute and another with its own beach on Loch Striven. On the edge of Oban, a Baronial house serves a set dinner in its dining room.
