Places to Stay by the Sea on Skye

Nowhere on Skye is far from the sea, but these places are right beside it. Wake up to the tide and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

Curated and written by Hidden Scotland

Updated 23 September 2026. Across the Isle of Skye.

Skye has hundreds of miles of coastline, and the sea is part of almost every view on the island. But there's something special about staying right beside it, where the tide comes up to the bottom of the garden and the first thing you see in the morning is the water.

We've picked out our favourite places to stay by the sea on Skye. There are cottages on clifftops looking out to the Outer Hebrides, a bothy in its own sheltered bay, country house hotels on the shores of sea lochs, and a lighthouse cottage on a tidal island. Bring binoculars for the seals, otters and seabirds, pull a chair up to the window, and let the sea do the rest.
