The Chlachain Inn
A small pub with food and rooms in Mallaig, built around 1900, serving West Coast seafood, with live music on Saturdays and a Thursday quiz.
On Davies Brae in Mallaig, the Chlachain Inn calls itself the wee pub with food and rooms.
It was built around 1900, and its name is Gaelic for stone house. A refurbishment in 2018 made it bright and modern inside, with wood panelling, oak floors and a real coal fire, but it is still the place where the town gathers.
The kitchen cooks from Scotland's larder: seafood that comes in daily from a local fish merchant, meat from a Lochalsh butcher, and a seasonal menu of fish, pastas, risottos and steaks. The bar has local real ales, malt whiskies and small-batch Scottish gins. There is live music most Saturdays, a quiz on Thursdays and a dartboard.
Upstairs are three modern en-suite rooms, a handy base for the Small Isles ferries and the white beaches of Morar.
