White and dark-roofed houses overlooking a rocky, seaweed-covered shoreline at low tide

Arisaig

A village of white houses on Loch nan Ceall, where the Road to the Isles meets the west coast, with a pier for boats to Eigg, Muck and Rum.

Welcome

Arisaig is where the Road to the Isles and the railway beside it finally reach the west coast, before turning north for Mallaig.

The village is a scatter of white-painted houses between the harbour and the line, on the shore of Loch nan Ceall, the loch of the churches.

The Silver Sands of Morar begin just to the north. In summer, boats sail from Arisaig's pier to the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck and Rum. There are shops, places to stay, a station on the Mallaig line, and the Land, Sea and Islands Centre, a free museum run by the community.

Bonnie Prince Charlie left Scotland for France in 1746 from Loch nan Uamh, just to the east.
