Small Isles, Isle of Eigg
Eigg Craft Shop
Overview
The Craft Shop operates seasonally from spring through early autumn. Inside, shelves display a rotating collection of locally made products: hand-thrown pottery, carved wooden spoons, woven scarves, candles, greeting cards, and limited-edition prints showcasing Eigg wildlife and landscapes. Most pieces are produced by local artisans, often in small batches; some artists work with sustainable or recycled materials. The shop doubled as a workspace during quiet periods—occasional open studio events allow visitors to meet the makers behind the work.
Vendors change throughout the season, with fresh items arriving weekly—from knitted hats to seaweed-infused soaps. The mix is eclectic but coherent: each object bears a clear connection to Eigg’s character, crafted with materials sourced or inspired locally. The prices reflect quality and rarity, often higher than mainland alternatives but rooted in the effort and care needed to create something by hand.
Staff are island residents, usually found arranging displays or greeting passersby. They know each item’s story—who made it, how it was made, and what inspired it. That sense of connection is a hallmark: the shop feels more like a community gallery than a tourist stop.
