The Big Cheese
A cheese shop on Broughton Street, opened in 2026, with more than 50 cheeses from Scotland, the rest of the UK and Europe, cut to order.
The Big Cheese is a friendly neighbourhood cheese shop on Broughton Street, opened in the summer of 2026, and a treat for anyone who loves cheese.
Its Cheese Gallery holds more than 50 cheeses from Scotland, the rest of the UK and the Continent, and around half of them can't be found in any other specialist cheese shop in Edinburgh. There are favourites like Isle of Mull Cheddar, Gubbeen and Parmesan, a Gorgonzola soft enough to serve with an ice cream scoop, and more unusual ones smoked over whisky barrel chips, washed in red wine or brandy, or coated in garlic, herbs and chilli. The cheesemongers, led by head cheesemonger Mia, will let you taste your way to something new, and your choice is cut and wrapped to order at the Cheese Board. Pick up chutney, crackers and freshly baked bread to go with it, and look out for tasting evenings in the Cheese Studio. It's open Tuesday to Sunday.

Taste before you buy; every piece is cut and wrapped to order.
