St Michael's Parish Church

Welcome

St Michael's Parish Church in Linlithgow stands beside the palace on the rise above the loch.

The two were built to be seen together. It's one of the finest medieval parish kirks left in Scotland. The church was consecrated in 1242 and rebuilt in the fifteenth century, and James IV worshipped here. The first thing you'll notice is the crown on the tower. It's a golden aluminium spire, put up in 1964 in place of a stone one taken down long before. It's free to go in, and the loch walk starts at the gate.
