Santu
A tiny espresso bar on the Canongate, the Royal Mile coffee bar of Santu, who roast coffee from Brazil in Edinburgh, open every day.
Santu is a tiny, old-fashioned espresso bar on the Canongate, and a calm little stop on one of the busiest streets in the city.
It opened on the Royal Mile in 2021 as the first shop of Santu Coffee, which was founded in 2018 by a Brazilian and a Brit. They buy their coffee directly from farmers they lived and worked with in Espirito Santo, a small, mountainous state in Brazil, and roast every bean here in Edinburgh. Inside there's a record player, a punch card for regulars, just a handful of seats and a few lovely pastries on the counter to go with your flat white. It's open every day from 8am to 4pm, so it's an easy one to fit into a morning on the Royal Mile, and Dunbar's Close Garden is just across the street if you'd like to take your coffee outside. Santu also has a second coffee bar inside its roastery on Union Street, a city laundry of 1931 that still has its original tiles.

Open every day from 8am to 4pm, with just a handful of seats.
The roastery's own coffee bar on Union Street keeps the same hours.
