Meall Greigh

A Munro of 1,001 metres at the north-east end of the Ben Lawers range above Loch Tay, climbed from Lawers by the Lawers Burn.

Welcome

Meall Greigh, 1,001 metres, stands at the north-east end of the Ben Lawers range, above Loch Tay in Perth and Kinross.

It only just clears the 1,000-metre mark, and each of its neighbours along the range is higher. Meall Garbh is three kilometres to the west, with An Stuc a little beyond it, and Ben Lawers itself is about four and a half kilometres to the south-west.

The usual way up starts in Lawers on the A827, follows the Lawers Burn up its glen and climbs the hill's broad south ridge to the summit. Many walkers go on west along the ridge to Meall Garbh. No avalanche forecast covers the range, and under snow that does not mean there is no risk. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.

The Daily for 4 November, from Scotland with love. A pink sandstone castle bristling with conical turrets and a Union Jack flag rises above a gravel forecourt, autumn-tinged ivy climbing one wing beside cannon displayed on the lawn.
