Meall Corranaich

A Munro of 1,067 metres in the Ben Lawers range, above Lochan na Lairige, climbed from the hill road at the north end of the lochan.

Welcome

Meall Corranaich rises to 1,067 metres in the Ben Lawers range in Perth and Kinross.

It stands on one side of Coire Odhar, with Beinn Ghlas on the other. Beinn Ghlas is just over a kilometre to the east and Ben Lawers about two kilometres away. Meall a' Choire Leith, a Munro of its own, is under three kilometres to the north. The National Trust for Scotland names Meall Corranaich among the Munros it owns in the range, which it bought in 1950 to protect the arctic-alpine plants on the heights.

Fragile mountain plants grow here, and the Trust asks walkers to keep to the path as far as possible and to keep dogs under control. No avalanche forecast covers the hill, which does not mean there is no risk here under snow. The Mountain Weather Information Service's forecasts for the Southeastern Highlands and the West Highlands both reach this far, so read both. Deer stalking can take place at any time of year, Mountaineering Scotland says, so find out before you go. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
