Meall a' Choire Leith

A Munro of 926 metres at the north end of the Ben Lawers hills, above Glen Lyon, climbed from the hill road by Lochan na Lairige.

Welcome

Meall a' Choire Leith rises to 926 metres at the north end of the Ben Lawers hills in Perth and Kinross, above Glen Lyon.

It is not Spidean a' Choire Leith, the top of Liathach in Torridon, whose name is very like it. Every one of its near neighbours is higher. An Stuc and Meall Corranaich are each under three kilometres away, to the east and the south. Ben Lawers, the highest mountain in Tayside, stands about three and a half kilometres to the south-east. The National Trust for Scotland bought the massif in 1950 to protect the arctic-alpine plants on its heights.

No avalanche forecast covers the hill, which does not mean there is no risk here under snow. The Mountain Weather Information Service's forecasts for the Southeastern Highlands and the West Highlands both reach this far, so read both. Deer stalking can take place at any time of year, Mountaineering Scotland says, so find out before you go. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
