Garden Cottage is a Highland cottage from the 1720s at West Tempar, on a family farm at the foot of Schiehallion, two miles from Kinloch Rannoch.

It has been newly refurbished in the spirit of Scottish country living, light and airy with a fire at its heart. It sleeps two, in one king bedroom with a wide view over the loch to the north and Schiehallion to the south. The kitchen has a dining area and armchairs by a wood-burning stove, and the bathroom has a bath with a sky view and a shower. It’s all on one level from the car. Outside there’s a terrace with bench seating and a picnic hamper, secure bike storage with room for a canoe or fishing rods, and the walled kitchen garden with its free-range hens. Dogs are very welcome, with a bed, a kennel and an outdoor tap and hose for muddy paws.

Noise travels a long way in a glen: we can often hear the team gathering the sheep off the hill on the other side of the loch.

Garden Cottage is at West Tempar, at the foot of Schiehallion in Highland Perthshire, two miles from Kinloch Rannoch, whose village store has the essentials.

It looks out over the loch to the hills beyond. Public transport is limited, so come by car.
